What is sports massage?

Sports massage is a form of bodywork targeted towards patients participating in sport or physical activity. This type of massage is used to help prevent injuries, maintain optimal physical function, and to help athletes recover from workouts or sporting events.

Sports massage can be used pre -event to help prepare the body for exercise, and also can be used post – event to help with recovery.

What should I expect during my sports massage?

We understand post event you will be very sore! You can expect a medium pressure from your sports massage that aims to reduce delayed onset muscle soreness and fatigue. Our therapists will focus on techniques that encourage blood flow to rid the body of lactic acid, and some deep tissue techniques to prevent muscle spasm. 

How will sports massage help my body recover after physical activity?

Post event massage will significantly reduce soreness, fatigue and tightness associated with post exercise or sporting event. This will reduce down time and will help you achieve a speedy recover, so you can get back to your training routine sooner. Our therapists work towards alleviating DOMS, (delayed onset muscle soreness) and aim to restore normal range of motion. 

A post massage can be performed from 30 minutes up to 72 hours after competition or activity. Sports massage techniques are utilised to increase blood flow and rid the body of metabolic waste products after exercise. When waste products are still in the muscles, they produce stiffness, fatigue and can lead to injury. A post event massage decreases the chance of soreness and tightness after exercise so that training can be continued.

How should I prepare for my in-home sports massage?

Like all of our mobile massage treatments, all you need to do is provide a space for your mobile massage therapist and we bring everything else! After your sports massage we suggest drinking plenty of water to stay well hydrated.
